Ted Lewis twirled seven sharp innings for Boston allowing two hits as the Pirates were held scoreless until late. In the eighth and ninth, Pittsburgh rallied with four hits and three runs but Boston answered with timely hitting and fielding led by Collins, Long, and Tenney. Final score featured Boston taking a 7-3 win after a strong defensive showing.

R O Heikes of Dayton Ohio won the Grand American Target Handicap with 91 of 100. Captain A W Money challenged Heikes for a 100 target race tomorrow under similar handicap conditions, and Heikes accepted. The tournament will wind up tomorrow at Interstate Park on Long Island.
The James Gordon Bennett cup race from Paris to Lyons was won by M. I. Charron of France. Alexander Winton of Cleveland participated but abandoned at Orleans after his machine was damaged. The race started at Ville d Avray at 3 14 am and Charron reached Lyons at 1 23 pm.
The Boston Courant, organ of the colored community, marked its eleventh founding anniversary at St Pauls Church near Tremont and Camden. Booker T Washington was expected but delayed in Fall River and arrived after 11 p.m., too late to speak.
David G. Shafer of Chicago, former Jimmy Michael manager, arrives in Boston ready to back a rival against top middle distance riders for a $1000 prize.
