Steamer Doun Richmond Loses Piston Beam Near Sing Sing

In New York on June 14 at 850 pm the steamer Doun Richmond carrying 300 passengers to Albany broke a piston red beam after Sing Sing. The connecting rod crashed into the forward cabin, gas extinguished and passengers panicked. One man was badly injured. Some attempted to jump overboard. The Saratoga towed passengers to safety, and the Richmond drifted from its anchor opposite Sing Sing.

Bridge Disaster Hits Hampshire County in June Gale

A hurricane and hailstorm toppled the 1214 foot Massachusetts Central Railroad bridge over the Connecticut River between Northampton and Hadley, killing Mrs Sullivan and injuring Sheriff Enos Cook. Two Tramps Target Great Falls Home. Woman Fends Off Attack

A Great Falls domestic escapes injury after a home invasion by three tramps who demanded money and valuables. The defender, a 20 year old woman, faced threats but fired, wounding one assailant as the others fled. Police searched all night for the suspects. National Stove Manufacturers' Committee Urges Production Cutback

Missing Fort Fairfield boy found in brook near home

The body of the little Reid boy of Fort Fairfield, missing since April, was found Thursday in the brook near his home. An inquest was deemed unnecessary. The Free Reading Room at Rutland is closed, because the managers gradually cut off the Democratic papers on file, at least half those frequenting the room being Democrats. George Mills and Frank Duke of South Barton got into a row Wednesday night at the steam mill, which ended in Mills striking Duke with a stab, knocking him senseless, in which condition he has since been. Physicians think he will recover.
