A June morning blaze at Nos 10 and 12 Montgomery Street sweat shop clothing factory trapped 200 workers, mostly Hebrews. Four died from jumping or suffocation, with many injured as fire escape access failed and crowds jammed the stairwell. Fire damage and stock loss estimated at 16009 dollars.

Assault on Charles Street Wounds Two Costellos
John Costello aged 30 and Patrick Costello aged 26 were attacked by a colored man near Mt. Vernon street at 9:45 PM. Both received severe scalp wounds from a razor and were treated by Dr. Cilley at Station 3 before returning home to 54 Auburn street. The assailant was with a colored woman and both suspects fled. No motive was given.
