Fog Delays Harbor Traffic and Ocean Liners Off Cape Cod
A dense fog over the bay and Vineyard Sound keeps ships in harbor with little sailing activity. The Cunard liner Ivernia and Dominion liner New England face long delays at Quarantine and in the upper harbor while fishing fleets bring in large hauls and prices for haddock and cod remain firm. The Batavia and Ethelwold arrivals are noted, and pilot Bruce McLean assists the New England to sea amid reduced visibility. Captain Holden’s Major Pickands sets a fast record for Boston Savannah Baltimore trips, with a 19,200 railroad ties load in 38 hours.
