Imported black oS and blue serges for gentlemen's summer wear promote the ninth annual sale. Beginning with hundreds, sales have grown to thousands yearly. Royal West of England imported serges weigh eleven ounces to the yard in wooded indigo, seawater and soda boil resistant. A material sample is available. Sale runs this week through June at 32 to 44 North St.
The jury returned a verdict of murder in the first degree tonight at 10 16 as the Henry C Fanning trial for the murder of Mrs Emily Taylor concluded New Years June 1.
In a note signed by Congress agents Lefiors Matte and Ross the Chilean Junta asserts belligerent rights of the Provisional Government, claiming constitutional power and naval supremacy over four provinces. London reports the omnibus and road-car workers strike. the road-car company says paying wages to loyalists is unaffordable as buses do not run. The company claims conceding wage demands would force service stoppage. Striking agents collect funds in public streets to sustain loyalists.

New York reports a Friday night burglary at Hilton Hughes Denning dry goods store on Broadway Ninth and Tenth streets. Diamonds worth about 10000 were stolen from the jewelry department after robbers hid inside and used a basement fire near transoms to escape as shutters and outside watchmen hindered pursuit. The fire was put out and the building resecured. the theft was discovered next morning but kept secret until now.
Serious rioting by North German Lloyd Steamship Company firemen in Bremen escalated as police armed with drawn swords battled the strikers. Fire brigade reinforcements arrived and restored order after a brutal clash that left several firemen severely injured and a number arrested.
