A fast freight train derailed after a flange broke while passing. Investigators report wheel-rail failure as the probable cause. No serious injuries were recorded, and crew reports indicate a sudden stop followed by a derailment near the yard. Local authorities are cordoning the area.
A wheel flange broke on the engine pulling the 4 35 from Boston to Woburn causing several hours of delay on Boston and Maine's southern division. Passengers in the smoking car were shaken. the engine narrowly avoided a collision with a fast freight after the engine keeled to the right.
New five mile and one mile marks were set as Bobby Walthour led a trio of riders, including Joe Nelson and Hugh Maclean, in the opening meet of the national pace circuit at Charles River Park. Walthour’s 6:64.5 five miles topped the old record by 142.5 seconds, with Nelson also delivering record pace in earlier heats.
An electric car on the Marlboro Worcester division jumped the track on a curve near Williams Tavern in Marlboro tonight. Motorman Dowse was injured in the back but not seriously, ten passengers were badly shaken, the front of the car was crushed, the rear truck twisted, and the line blocked for hours.
In the Campello freight yard a baseball foul tip struck Arvid Holmberg ten years old in the heart. He died minutes later after walking briefly and collapsing in a bystander’s arms. He was the son of John Holmberg and the eldest of four children.
Alois Brebonse a Trieste merchant and Anton Ceric an agent were arrested on charges of defrauding a New York insurance company by insuring sick persons and taking an interest in the policies for small sums. They insured seven people for 69000 dollars. the first claim of 8000 dollars was paid before the scheme was uncovered in the second case.

One man required a stretcher to the station while Hoppe secured the scene and awaited the wagon.
Little Margaret Campbell aged two was saved from a perilous rooftop position atop the Colonnade building in Brookline by Manuel De Souza, a barber, who descended two floors and guided the child to safety as onlookers cried out. The rescue occurred after 3 PM yesterday as the child wandered from her mother in Pierce's block. The mother nearly fainted upon the successful return.
A thousand canoes glided by the Charles at Riverside during float night marking the season opening. Japanese lanterns lit the banks while the A B Co Arlington club sang on the veranda as a 2000 strong crowd enjoyed the water scene, music, and a postponed fireworks display.
Frank M. Frost a Chelsea druggist was convicted of unlawfully keeping and exposing liquor for sale. He received a $50 fine and 90 days in the county jail, the first such prison sentence for a Chelsea druggist in ten years.

Secretary Moody announced the acceptance of the three lowest bids for three new 16 000 ton battleships. Newport News won for Minnesota at 4 110 000 dollars Kansas New York for 4 179 000 and Fore River Ship Engine for Vermont at 4 165 000.
The Plymouth jury convicts Ada F Gardiner of forging C T Pierce of Boston's name on a $7000 note in Superior Court before Judge Harris. Sentence deferred. The court also hears Michael J Connolly on a separate assault with intent to murder Duxbury Police Chief Walter W Crandall on April 30.
