The Mercantile Agency reports 322 US failures this week and 27 in Canada. Two liabilities exceed 1 million, while 61 US failures exceed 5 000. Last week had 259 total US and Canadian failures. the prior week 273.
Bridgeport Conn June 9 John Hawley colored was today convicted of murder in the second degree for killing Mrs Mary Munson of Shelton on Dec 21 1891 Judge Prentice sentenced Hawley to life in the State Prison An appeal was taken This is his second conviction and sentence with a previous new trial granted the first time

G P Mills, famed amateur tricycle rider, finished a Land's End to John o' Groats race in three days and sixteen hours over about 700 miles. He surpassed the bicycle record by seven hours eight minutes and the tricycle record by forty one hours thirteen minutes. In October 1891 he rode 867 miles without sleep.

New York dispatch June 9 reports G G Howland, Herald general manager, denying a cable stating Mr Bennett was seriously injured. He says Bennett is not seriously hurt, his condition is satisfactory, and he expects to go out in a few days.
