Affidavit Details Enola C seizure by Stella Maria

Samuel Collins returns to Gloucester and swears to an affidavit detailing the seizure of the Enola C by the Stella Maria in Trinity Bay. The captain allegedly misled the crew by citing treaty ratification and forged assurances, then boarded with armed men before taking control of the schooner.

Destructive Rain Storm Rushes Through Canton and Toledo

A fierce two city storm on June 7 caused extensive flooding and crop ruin southeast of Canton Illinois with ten miles of railroad track washed away and several bridges destroyed. In Toledo Ohio the storm toppled walls at Reno Espy and fatally injured workers, capsized boats, damaged depots and elevator buildings, and left multiple deaths and widespread property loss.

New Hampshire House Acts on Studies and Railroads

The New Hampshire House reassembled at 9 o clock with committees named for judiciary banks elections insurance State prison agriculture railroads and more. Bills include repealing a student voting section amending general laws charter of Pemigewassett Bridge Co incorporation of Squaw Falls Manufacturing Co and Nashua Ac ton & Boston Railroad. Adjourned to Monday 4 PM. Senate reported no business beyond committee announcements.

Riots feared as wage strike widens in New York

New York reports a growing strike over wages and hours with threats of riot. Gas workers and car drivers push for shorter hours and higher pay while authorities prepare for potential unrest. Indian chiefs receive a reception at Cooper Institute as Red Cloud calls for peace and education. Dr Lanahan of Methodist Book Concern is jailed after a dispute with Samuel Goodenough. A will case returns property to Mrs Bolton valued near one million dollars. Gordon Gordon again misses examination in a Gould case, with ordered future appearance set for the 20th.

Ten-Year Sentence For Burglar James Morton

New York June 7 James Morton burglar has been sentenced to ten years in the State Prison. The Strikers executive committee works on a letter to Gov Hoffman defending workers against violence accusations. German furniture makers strike and show resolve. Gasmen’s Protective Union votes to stop work unless eight hours. Sewing machine workers form a union. Amalgamated Engineers’ Society plans an eight hour strike. Coach-makers hold a mass meeting to set future rules. Knights of St Crispin threaten to strike over wage cuts. Demonstrations and parades planned for Monday. Printers plan to strike for eight hour system in July. Dr John Lanahan jailed on libel and slander charges. bail set at $5000. He seeks Baltimore surety and will likely be released tomorrow. Also notes an ad for Schem’s Universal Statistical Table and Atwood’s Quinine Tonic Brains.
