National Union Convention Meets at Front Street Theatre

Baltimore June 7 The National Union Convention met at Front Street Theatre with nearly 600 delegates including New Mexico. Dr Breckinridge was chosen temporary chair with cheers. Committees on Credentials and Resolutions named, and evening session set agenda for tomorrow with Mr Brownlow addressing.

Despatches Report Repulse of Midnight Assault

War Department dispatches from Army of the Potomac headquarters dated 9 this morning describe a midnight assault on Burnside repulsed. A hundred picked men probed Hancock's siege lines. nine captured and others killed or driven back. Grant and Lee exchanges over wounded remain unresolved.

Front News: Meagre Skirmishes and Heavy Casualties

June 6 reports say little action beyond night probes and a costly 2d corps assault with about 100 killed and over 1000 wounded. Wounded crowds overwhelm the front town, transportation to Washington remains limited, and doctors are scarce. Aid societies mobilize, relief plans are organized, and delegates prepare to travel to Washington for shipments.

Noted Rebel Scout Leader Brought to Fortress Monror

The rebel scout chief Foy, captured near Pallixville, N C, was brought to Fortress Monror. The steamer Moncas Powell arrived from Bermuda Hundred with no new reports from Gen Butler. Lieut A K Parsons’ body arrived from White House en route to Vermont. he was killed by a grape shot Friday in front of Richmond.
