Colonel John G. Healy a Civil War veteran with the Ninth Connecticut Volunteer Regiment and later a noted Irish patriot died at his New Haven home at 67. Healy planned Irish uprising against England and was jailed in Britain before Secretary Seward secured his release. England initially balked claiming British subject status. George W. Mudgett a 70 year old Roxbury real estate operator was held at pistol point and robbed of 100 dollars in a Dudley street apartment. He had been summoned by a call in the name of Julius Baker and went to a room where a dark young man in a blue suit and golf cap awaited the supposed father a Boston wool merchant.

Man dives Niagara Gorge to save wife from death

Louis Cohen of Buffalo leaps into the Niagara river to save his wife who leapt from near Second and Third Sisters Islands. He clung to her as the current swept toward the falls, but the force of the water and a tree stump thwarted their rescue. Mrs. Cohen died in her husband’s arms despite his desperate efforts.

Man recounts river tragedy at cataract rescue

Mrs Cohen drowned after leaping into the river as Cohen clung to life. Officer James Martin and Rep James S Simons led a rope rescue with three others but fell short. Son’s wife died in his arms. Cohen recovered while rescue efforts continued and the body was recovered near Goat Island.
