The governor vetoed again and warns against land companies in a political climate where warm nights push legislators toward action. Democratic western papers hail the old ticket from 1876 while an anti-Butler reform party forms with a single familiar vote.
The demise of ex Chief Justice Cushing is a great loss to New Hampshire and to the democracy of that state. He was one of New Hampshire's best citizens a courtly gentleman of the old school. As a lawyer he ranked high. As a democrat he was an honor to his party and one of its wisest counsellors.
The Ancients enjoyed fine anniversary exercises. The year under Capt. Mack has been eventful for the corps. Maj. Merrill, the new commander, is expected to lead with both soldierly conduct and editorial steadiness, bringing credit to himself and honor to the corps.
Governor Cleveland vetoed 88 measures, saving public funds and preventing waste. No bill passed over his veto. he will now end the busy executive period and retire from some duties. He has built a strong, controversy free record to date.

Frank Brown and John Anderson of the Crooked Creek Gang terrorized Vista for three hours on Sunday firing revolvers and causing disturbance. An armed citizen group met them and shot them down. Anderson is dead and Brown is expected to die.
In Pittsburg on June 4 the tin plate manufacturers of the United States organized the American Tin Plate Association. Elected to leadership were President William J. Lewis of Pittsburg, vice presidents Alfred Marshall of Philadelphia and Bacon Foss of Boston, treasurer Bissell Everson of Pittsburg, and secretary W. E. Crone Meyer of Pittsburg.
Delegates to the Ohio Republican state convention arrive in Columbus. Until Sherman arrived this evening there was strong sentiment for his nomination, but after his refusal to use his name the outlook favors Foraker's nomination.

A handsome steam launch built at Bristol Rhode Island for Mr. Jay Gould's yacht Atalanta arrived on the steamship Tonawanda. It will be used to carry passengers up small rivers and shallow places not navigable for the Atalanta.
W P McCreery secretary and F Listenwater manager of the Marriage Fund Mutual Trust association were arrested at Cedar Ramps Ia on June 4 on charges of conspiracy to defraud and using the United States mail for that purpose.
