Proctor challenges the view that marriage extends life and lowers crime

Prof. R A Proctor argues against Drysdale and Bertillon claiming marriage lowers mortality, crime, and insanity. He warns that promoting early marriage for criminals could spread misery and urges that marriage is not proven to affect death or crime rates. He says marriage may reflect a person’s better nature, not curb tendencies.

Internal Strife at Mount Olive Baptist Church

A Philadelphia Mount Olive Baptist congregation meeting turned violent as Deacon Howard flew head first from a window. Dr. Brown explained the dispute grew after expanding the Sunday school from four to twenty seven students under Howard, who is described as educated but lacking deliberation. Howard allegedly fought staff, grabbed the secretary, and a confrontation escalated to physical blows and expulsion.
