Mrs Flor nee Lawlor Leeds once a chorus girl faces charges tied to James A Stillman the banker. She is now under care of a community of Catholic women and is mentioned in the Potter suit response in New York.
Dr. Sidney Wells of the United States Pulp and Paper Laboratory announced at the American Pulp and Paper Mills Superintendents convention that a new process could use southern pine to bleached pulp. He urged building mills near pine forests in the southern United States to boost newsprint supply.
Captain Thomas C. Evans, a veteran of nearly forty years with the Afton Police Department, was promoted yesterday to deputy superintendent. He had served as acting deputy since February 7, 1921, after a long career rising from patrolman in 1882 to inspector and captain, with assignments across divisions and the city prison.
Dublin dispatch reports District Inspector Stevenson a police sergeant and four constables were killed with four officers gravely wounded when a patrol of ten men ambushed them near Westport County Mayo last night. Weapons and ammunition were seized and three police cars were burned.
Patrolman Daniel M. O'Connell pursued Francis Mulcahy of Cambridge after a reckless driving charge. In civilian clothes, O'Connell fired two shots as Mulcahy fled from Union Square to Bow Street and back, with two other cars joining the chase. Mulcahy claimed the officer did not show his badge.
In the American League Boston beat Cleveland 7 to 6 and Chicago defeated Washington 38 to 0 while Philadelphia scored 15 against Detroit. In the National League Brooklyn won 3 to 1 over New York and Philadelphia prevailed 6 to 5 over St Louis with Pittsburgh downed by 1 to 0.
Secretary of War Weeks announced Major General Clarence R. Edwards will move from Camp Dix to lead the First Corps area with headquarters in Boston. The transfer takes effect July 1 to align with the 26th Division reunion in Boston beginning July 2 amid some opposition from General N. E.
Billy Carney of New Bedford defeated Brockton’s "Wild Man" Gould in a ten round match in Fall River. Carney opened Gould’s eye in the fifth and sent him halfway through the ropes with a right cross in the sixth. The semi final saw Jimmy Lewis of Brockton lose a close decision to Young Barry of Fall River. Battling Peters of New Bedford fell to Mickey Grogan of Fall River.
After four days of veniremen examination the jury for Nicola Sacco and Bar tolomeo Vanzetti was completed at 12 32 this morning in the Superior Criminal Court at Dedham. They are charged with first degree murder in the April 15 1920 shooting of Paymaster Frederick A Parmenter of Slater and Merrill Shoe Co and Special Officer Alesandro Berardelli. The twelfth juryman selected was Seward B Parker of Quincy.
After four days of examination 500 veniremen and 152 talesmen were questioned. Following depletion of the venire, 175 talesmen were summoned. The completion of the jury remains pending.
Geneva report notes the international Olympic committee awarded Paris the 1924 Games and Amsterdam the 1928 Games. The decision solidifies Paris as the host city for 1924 while Amsterdam secures the 1928 event.
Theodore Boylston a 20 year old Milton resident and Lowell Textile School student died at Choate Memorial Hospital after a collision between his car and a truck near Silver Lake in Wilmington. Driver Walter Doane of Milford NH was arrested at Woburn on injury reports as Boylston suffered a fractured skull and other severe injuries while two accompanying women were unharmed.
Washington June 3 The House foreign affairs committee voted 11 to 6 to refuse reporting the Flood resolution. It sought State Department information on whether Ambassador Harvey’s recent London Pilgrim Society speech complied with government instructions or if communications approving or disapproving the speech had been sent to the ambassador.
Mr. 3 declines to testify before the special attorney general and discuss Tufts' charges, insisting he is not a court. He argues he cannot be compelled to appear and provide statements in the proceeding.
June 3 report states Elmer C. Potter chosen to replace William J. McCarthy as federal prohibition enforcement agent for New England. Potter, named by the new administration, confirms he remains a prohibitionist despite expectations of impartial enforcement.

A dated note marks the Versailles peace treaty signed a year ago. Reports also mention a deadly Jewish outbreak in Budapest.
Japan expressed approval of disarmament in a reply dated April 26 to the League of Nations inquiry. The statement, issued from the Japanese embassy, outlines Tokyo's attitude toward disarmament as part of the League's global survey.
In a Geneva briefing the Japanese government urged all nations to reduce armaments in a spirit of League of Nations unity. It said the council is studying disarmament plans and Japan cannot act on the assembly's recommendation until those plans are completed.
Inspector Si Smith moved from Tufts staff as Boston lawyers testified to Special Assistant Attorney General Henry F. Hurlburt about his probe of the District Attorney Tufts office. One lawyer refused to testify claiming Hurlburt was not a court and duty bound to protect his client. The attorney who defied the investigator was unnamed.
