Gillespie Wounded by Pitcher in Chattanooga Doubleheader

Jimmy Gillespie third baseman for Chattanooga was struck on the head by Birmingham pitcher Hardgrove in the eighth inning of the second game. He was taken to hospital in extremely critical condition with a badly fractured skull. Gillespie played last year with Providence in the National League.

Train wreck leaves four seriously hurt as passengers escape through windows

Panic-stricken passengers, many women, fled via windows after a wreck. It took over an hour to extricate the locomotive from the damaged coach. Four ambulances were summoned to the scene to transport the injured, with four passengers deemed seriously hurt.

Swain Named Chairman of Boston Transit Commission

Professor George F. Swain, long time Boston Transit Commission member since 1894, is appointed chairman succeeding the late George G. Crocker. He also serves at Harvard Graduate School of Applied Sciences as civil engineering professor since 1909 and has roles at MIT and Berlin Royal Polytechnic. Swain, born March 2 1857 in San Francisco, studied at MIT and Berlin, holds LL D from NYU, and helped appraise New Haven railroad assets for the State Commission three years ago.
