A Pinkerton detective tracked him aboard a steamship bound for New York but he vanished eleven miles off Newport News. He swam ashore to Texas where Edson later swore out a warrant alleging another attempted murder.
Four men Michael F. Kane James E. Sisson James F. Moore and Mark Sullivan were fined 75 each for illegally selling liquor. Each posted bonds of 800. Indignation rose over methods used by the Law and Order League to bring dealers to justice. Lawyer Walter Clifford questioned spotter payments made to tempt crime. Rutland Vermont June 8 George Munroe alias Robert Bowman was brought from Chicago by a Pinkerton detective to answer an indictment for forging a draft on Brandon National Bank in 1882. He is also wanted for breaking into the Fitchburg Mass express office in 1882 and for sterling money offenses.
Bancor Missouri June 3 Frank Hanscom postmaster at Springfield disappeared after leaving his home about 9 p m Tuesday no clue to his whereabouts and no cause given authorities seek any information to locate him.

Barnes of Illinois as associate justice of the Supreme Court of Arizona F. J. Pratt as collector of internal revenue for the Tenth district of Massachusetts and B. F. Peach Jr. as pension agent at Boston.
In London on June 3 the House of Commons debated the fate of the Home Rule Bill. Sir Michael Hicks Beach pressed for a division date, Mr. Henry Labouchere opposed an early date, and Mr. Gladstone set Monday for the division. Mr. O’Connor defended Gladstone against criticisms and urged Liberal support, while Mr. Charles Bradlaugh backed the bill.

A committee reports that certificates from U S consuls may exempt shipments from disinfection if gathered in cholera-free countries for six months. Proposals also bar rags from ports with recent cholera activity and seek uniform national quarantine policy.
In the Erie telephone suits Director C E Adams was cross examined and testimony details a 1884 directors meeting called at Coburn’s suggestion. Asa C Russell, a Lowell director since July 12 1884, testified he was asked about Bent’s claims for services and that he bought more Erie stock six months later influenced by Bent’s claim of no salary. A recess was taken until 9 30 tomorrow morning.
A large wool auction in St Louis on June 8 by the Western Wool Commission Company and major dealers drew strong interest and met with brisk bidding. A midnight blaze destroyed the Warren Woollen Company mill in Stafford Springs, Connecticut. Firefighters prevented spread to nearby buildings, with losses estimated at 65,000 dollars and 35,000 dollars insured. The forty-loom mill is believed incendiary in origin.

In Lowell three men attempted to pry open a window at the residence of Timo thy Helland, a Boston and Lowell conductor. Mrs Helland woke to the dog’s bark and alarmed her husband who fired back after a burglar fired two shots at him. the assailants fled. A similar attempt occurred three months earlier.
West Point June 3. Graduating exercises continued today with Mr. W S Bissell arriving from the White House wedding. Brigadier General Gibbon and General Nichols will address the graduates. The attendance of the Secretary of War and General Sheridan has been officially announced.
The second season of promenade concerts at Music Hall opens tomorrow. Tickets cost 25 cents, balcony seats 50 cents. The opening program features overtures, Scotch motifs, Wagner, Halevy, and other classics with a full cast. The season runs through Saturday with multiple theatre closings noted and plans for a final benefit concert.
Annual examinations for admission to Boston University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology began yesterday. BU saw many applicants mainly for Liberal Arts and Medicine. MIT also reported an unusually large applicant pool totaling 265, the biggest in years. Further tests will be held simultaneously in other major cities.
Vatrick J. Curley, intoxicated, fought Stablekeeper Conlon on Leverett street last night and stabbed him in the fire with a knife. Conlon was carried to his home at 20 Willard street, and Curley was arrested.
