Ganoe Upset and Men Snatched From Death After Brave Battle

Three young men Charles T Alexander 20 Joseph Tosci 17 and John Sawyer 19 were overturned from their canoe a quarter mile from Revere Beach. They clung to the craft until rescue by Officer John OHare Lieutenant Spencer Hawkins and patrolmen Herbert L Smith and Ernest W Girard of the Metropolitan Park police. Sawyer reached for a coat in the stern and the others held on. The life preserver protected Alexander as Sawyer and Tosci fought cold and exhaustion until rescuers arrived. Sawyer nearly died before being saved.

Off Fights With Revolver in Boston Street Clash

Joseph D Kelley 30 of 228 Albany Street fired four shots at Joseph Carr 15 Brad ford Street after a street fight in the South End. Overpowered at Dover and Washington by police, Kelley was arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon and treated for a scalp wound. He refused to explain the altercation. He wore fine clothes and had money.

Snow fell in New York sparks June chill blast

Snow flurried over skyscraper tops in New York as a sharp late spring cold snap hit. The weather bureau logged a 48 degree day, the coldest June reading since records began, with gusts to 60 mph. In the Bronx a two story frame house was torn apart and several trees fell near Bronx Park and Union Port road as shanties on Third avenue were blown from their foundations.

Fire Endangers 44 Children at Martin Luther Orphan Home

A blaze of suspected incendiary origin broke out in the northeast cellar of the Martin Luther Orphan Home in West Roxbury endangering 44 children. The fire was spotted before reaching upper floors allowing safe removal to an adjacent building. Two alarms were struck and damage affected the girls dormitory and dining area. Fire at Bremen Institution Sparks Rescue and Alarm

At about 430 Adam Seigel noticed smoke and found a cellar corner ablaze. A boy rode in to Box 566, fires answered by Engines 30 and 45, Ladders 16 and %. workers evacuated children, fought the blaze, and a second alarm at 631 sent Engines 19 and 28 and Ladder 10. Fire gained headway in rear walls despite efforts to confine it.
