The Actors' Fund of America held its annual meeting at Union Square theatre. The Cathedral of the Incarnation at Garden City Long Island was consecrated today as a gift from Mrs A T Stewart to the diocese of Long Island. It seats about 1000 but crowds far beyond that number sought entry. The procession included bishops priests and lay representatives from several dioceses and charities. The sermon by Assistant Bishop Potter drew on the text the palace is not for man but for the Lord God. Services continue daily at 11 A M through Sunday. A plate and communion service from Jamaica and Hempstead was used.
K. M. Reynolds, former first auditor at the United States Treasury, died at the Southern hotel in St. Louis this morning. He either jumped or fell into the hotel air shaft from the third floor after a gas-filled room was found. officials deem the death likely suicide. Reynolds, about 60, had left the Treasury a few weeks earlier and planned to visit Kansas to buy land.
The 164th annual session of the New York Grand Lodge of Freemasons opened in the temple with Grand Master William A. Brodie. He noted griefs and trials but overall blessings, with 71,456 master Masons at year start and a net membership increase of 854 by year end. The grand secretary’s report cites 1884 totals. the grand treasurer shows $138,069 receipts and $113,036 spent with a remaining balance.
An old Bostonian learns that Redding Baird & Co at 152 Franklin Street offers a free display of artistic stained glass works. In Westminster Maryland during the early hours masked men overpowered the sheriff, removed Townsend Cook a Black man jailed for an assault on Mrs Knot near Mt Airey. They hanged him from a tree two miles from town and found two bullet wounds in his neck. A note read This man confessed his crime. No arrests announced.
Early today the barn of C R Davis near his Denver residence was blown up with giant powder or dynamite. Davis had refused wage demands from mill workers prompting a strike and new hires. Strikers have since threatened Davis and more attacks have been found, including five sticks of powder on a nearby railroad track and other recent attempts to damage property.
Miss Julia Jackson, daughter of General Stonewall Jackson, and Mr Willard Christian planned to wed this evening in Richmond society. Jackson, 23, was born shortly before her father received his fatal wound at the Battle of Chancellorsville, and the event is billed as the season’s social highlight.
In Hartford superior court Joseph Montana an Italian was found guilty of second degree murder for stabbing Edward McAloon in the abdomen. He was sentenced to life in state prison.
Lancaster reports ex banker Samuel Eby of Elizabethtown arrested on charges of embezzling 6000 dollars from the Edward Sweeney estate, in which he served as an executor, following a January failure.
New York June 2 Late tonight J P Baldwin cashier of the Bank of the Manhattan Company delivered a statement from the bank to the clearing house. The directors met after discovering a deficiency of 160610 in the paying teller Scott's accounts. The bank's capital stands at 2050000 with unimpaired surplus 925000 after the loss.
Gen Crook reports eight troops dead after Apaches split into small bands. Many outrages cited. outlook grim with violence echoing Victoria outbreak. Bradley’s troop disposition forced by circumstances. pursuit across the Gila watershed underway. Main band reportedly captured near Apache with prisoners. about 50 may have escaped to Mexico.
Nominations by Democratic and Republican members of the New Hampshire legislature detail choices for speaker, clerk, and other officers. Democrats nominate O Connor for speaker and Kent and Backett for leadership roles, while Republicans pick Bowers for speaker, Aldrich for clerk, and Currier for senatorial president among others. The caucuses adjourn after nominees are announced.
Cincinnati physician Dr E E Loy shot and killed his brother in law Harry Champlin at 317 West Seventh Street after Champlin abused Loy's mother and family members. Loy claims self defense as Champlin advanced with a carving knife, the wound fatal between the eyes. Loy detained on murder charges.
A violent June storm in Chicago killed John Montague a McCormick Reaper works watchman and injured several others as buildings were demolished and a brick wall at the new baseball grounds collapsed. Nearby Lake and Transit House districts suffered damage and injuries from falling debris and a splintered flagstaff. Cedar Rapids reports hail up to hen eggs damaged railway spans and windows. Four more people died by lightning in Curcaco as the storm dropped washes and continued to rage before diminishing.
Labor disturbance in Pottsville involves about 200 Italian and Hungarian railroad workers marching with clubs and red flags. Police arrest the ringleaders after a tense confrontation at Cal Street. About 20 strikers jailed. contractors expect possible renewed demonstrations.
In St Johnsbury Vermont the June term of Caledonia county court opens with Judge Ross presiding. Fifteen cases are set for jury trial including Brock versus Haile for a $50,000 claim. The grand jury is in session with five prisoners in jail awaiting indictment. docket includes adultery rape poisoning burglary and minor offenses.

John McDonald and Charles Ferguson of Gloucester arrived home after drifting for 15 hours in dense fog off Grand Banks on May 19. With raw fish for food and rain water only from May 21, they endured a heavy gale from May 22, were rescued May 24 by the French schooner Catherine, and landed at St Pierre before being sent home via Halifax and the U S consul.

Clarence H. Freeman, who won the American checker championship last month, drops the title and $100 to August J. Heffner of Providence after a 24 game match begun May 25. Openings were drawn from a hat each evening, with the last two games played on the Holmboro line. Final score Heffner 4 Freeman 3 and 17 draws.
Providence report says the menhaden catcher George W. Humphrey, under Capt. Nathaniel B. Church, was sailing about 10 miles an hour near Fire Island with 2000 barrels of fish when it hit a whale. The collision knocked down the engineer and fireman. the whale came to the executive officer asking for help after the impact.
Pittsburg June 2 The National Im proved Telephone and Western Pennsylvania Telephone companies filed suit in the U S circuit court against Bell Telephone and Central District and Printinglegraph to restrain use of the Blake transmitter and to recover damages for infringement. Plaintiffs plan similar actions in several other cities concurrently.
London reports Gen Lumsden warns Russia aims to reopen Afghan dispute to pressure Britain and expand toward Indian possessions. In Serinagar a devastating earthquake destroys much of the city killing fifty and injuring many as relief efforts begin. Britain and Europe react to maritime and political tensions across Vienna Rome and Paris with protests and policy debates.

In Pen ns Grove New Jersey a box in Salem creek yielded four glass jars. Two infant bodies were undeveloped and decomposed, a third infant was born alive and murdered, a fourth held sponges. No clues found.
The Boston berry train from Norfolk collided with a peninsular freight train near Middle town at 3 AM. Both engines and three freight cars were wrecked. six more cars damaged. Freight Engineer Wm Rushton was killed. Brakeman Hitch severely hurt. others injured. Engineer Kirk hip injury from jumping.
Jersey City June report of Miss Anna Shippen daughter of W W Shippen Hoboken Land and Improvements Co about to marry Howland Davis Boston broker. Wedding at the groom's residence Sea Bright N J with guests ferried by the steamer St Jonas then a special train to Sandy Hook. A bridal gift rumor mentions a $150000 check from Mr Shippen.
A local chorus trained by Harry Benson, described as about 50 voices, performed Tuesday at Hocrticultural ball in honor of Miss Priscilla Morris. They sang together with good tempo and accuracy though lacking enthusiasm. Charles F. Dennee played piano as soloist and Miss Morris offered several pleasing songs.
In Augusta on June 2 Capt. Shirley and Happy Jack boosted local efforts while Capt. Thacher and a cadet beat the drum and were jailed for a third time. An audience of 1000 filled the barracks as talks of an injunction circulate and a march is planned for tomorrow.
Philadelphia reports the suspended Shackamaxon bank shows a widening deficit under expert scrutiny. Investigators now say overdrawn accounts surpass earlier estimates with Joseph Conklin's deficit rising to about 140000 dollars from 30000. An expert expressed despair at possible recovery.
Philadelphia June 2 The national shoe makers convention decided to form a national organization with an executive committee empowered to order strikes and lockouts.

Chauncy Hall held an annual public drill for the school battalion. The event featured performances by Company D the ponies, Company B and Company A with Maj. New York reports Dr. Douglas says swelling around Grants throat has abated and he can eat solids in small amounts. Grant plans to leave the city before month’s end and travel by boat to Albany for further rest. Col. Grant says his father had a quiet day and shows diminished strength but brighter mood with less pain. President Cleveland hoped to visit on Decoration Day but could not due to circumstances.
Mr. Henry I. Dillenback editor of the Boston Sunday Times and Miss Mildred A. Kincaid were united in marriage Tuesday evening at the bride’s parents residence 77 Prince ton street East Boston. The ceremony was performed by Rev E A Baldwin in the presence of the couple’s families and friends. The bride wore white nun’s veiling with lace trim and white roses. Gifts included a set of fruit knives lace handkerchief crackle ware and cash presents. A wedding reception followed and the couple will reside at Princeton street.
Bangor Maine June 2 The sixth sixth anniversary exercises opened with exams in Hebrew and New Testament exegesis for junior seniors and middles in various subjects. Trustees elected officers including Rev Benjamin D D president and George A Thatcher vice president. Prof Henry L Chapman joined trustees. Prof William M Balfour delivered the evening address before the rhetorical society. Exercises continue tomorrow with many visiting clergymen expected.
Shortly before 3 P. M. on Tuesday an unknown woman about 55 fell on the sidewalk opposite No 55 Commonwealth avenue and died within a few minutes from hemorrhage. Her remains were taken to the city hospital morgue. She was spare, with dark brown hair tinged with gray, blue eyes, no front teeth, and wore a black cassimere dress with silk fringe, a black and red camel’s hair shawl, and a black bonnet trimmed with breast feathers and beads.
West Randolph Vermont June 2 Dr Aiva Dutton of this town died by self inflicted drowning this afternoon in the river near the area. Authorities reported the death as an act of suicide though full details were being reviewed. Dutton was a local resident known in the community.

Actions include exempting soldiers from civil service exams, advancing the pharmacy and game bills, and passage of a metropolitan police report for Boston. Interior rooms show drafting, wood patterns, machine shop work, and a blacksmith yard. heavy iron and other materials are due next week to accelerate ongoing experiments.
In Albany on June 2 a charge of bribery surfaced during a hearing on the New York eclectic college of medicine bill. Dr. L C Gunn claimed Senator Henry J Coggeshall offered to report the bill for $500 and $1000 if passed, a tale Coggeshall denied as false. Gunn vowed to produce affidavits while Coggeshall said the doctor invented the story. The dispute stirs statewide interest as Coggeshall seeks re election and Gunn maintains the allegations.
