Threatening Letter Leads to Peace Bond and Trial

Signor G B Fontana faced a peace disturbance ruling with costs and $800 sureties for six months. A separate complaint for sending a threatening letter to the same complainant resulted in $800 held for trial. The letter warned of police tracking if visits to a Bulfinch Street house continued, with authorship proven by expert testimony.

Debating a Widowers Marriage Bill and Public Satire

Punch parries the bill to allow a widower to marry his deceased wife’s sister with satire on church authority and biblical misreadings. It mocks the Lords bishops and Jewish grounds, then shifts to lighter items on ladies in dentistry, calumny of guards, and fashion whispers in Le Follet.
