Druid’s Voyage Tests Bait License Rules at Fortune Bay
The Gloucester schooner Druid, after a ten week voyage from the Grand Banks, returns with a cargo of 100000 pounds of cod. Captain Kenney says bait patrols hindered fishing at Fortune Bay, where strict licenses are required under the Washington treaty of 1888. The license, bought under protest for 150 per ton, enables bait purchases and related activities for one year, amid claims that French vessels suffer from limited bait and rising costs.
