From the London Truth. Prince Alexander of Battenberg burns with animosity toward the English royal family. His brother’s morganatic marriage leads to a Bohemian forester’s daughter wedding. Kedney’s Christian Doctrine Harmonized and Its Rationality Vindicated
The review deems Kedney’s two volume work dense and scholarly. It suggests the author, likely influenced by Hegel, aims to unify Christian doctrine and defend it with fresh arguments. The piece notes esoteric aims for teachers and leaders, not lay readers, and praises depth and learning while questioning accessibility. It cites the work as a major recent study from Putnam.

Riverside Library for Young People review of Washington and Revolution
A critique of Horace E. Scudder and John Fiske biographies for youth. Scudder’s vivid portrayal of George Washington aims to engage young readers with color and concreteness, prioritizing early life while hinting at later political actions. Death of a Gold Digger King from Bendigo to Melbourne
Intelligence from Sydney reports the death of J. B. Watson an Australian quartz reef king and one of Australia’s wealthiest men. Born 1825 in Paisley he started as a butcher, prospered at Sandhurst and Bendigo, owning mines and large freehold holdings in Melbourne. His Bendigo mine reportedly yielded thirteen tons of gold with weekly outputs around 6000 ounces. He was a partner in the Golden Fleece and Kentish claims on Garden Gully. His passing leaves a vast estate and implies continued production of thirty to forty million pounds.
