Washington July 29 funeral services over the remains of the late Montgomery Blair were held at the mortuary chapel in Rock Creek cemetery at 5:30 this evening. A large attendance included Secretaries Lincoln Folger Postmaster General Gresham Generals Meigs Emery and Wright and Dr Basil Norris of the United States Army. The interment was in Rock Creek cemetery.
Heavy rains flooded Lehigh and Wilkesbarre Coal company No 10 colliery, leaving 17 feet of water and 400 miners unemployed. In Sugar Notch, Hanover Coal Company miners struck overnight over a docking boss, vowing not to return until he is dismissed.
Seventy five rafts carrying 375000 feet of lumber were swept from Herr's island by a freshet on the Allegheny river. A raft struck a pier near the Sixth sheet suspension bridge and broke up. The man on that raft drowned. Total loss estimated at 200000 dollars. No other damage reported along the river.
A Helena dispatcher notes a stage leaving at 8 o'clock this morning toward Deer Lodge was halted by two road agents about 18 miles from Deer Lodge. The robbers searched passengers and the treasure box and mail. Few valuables were found in the box.
New York July 29 Monsignor Capel the English Roman Catholic ecclesiastic famed for converting the marquis of Bute and other aristocrats arrived in the city this evening aboard the steamer Arizona.
A Mayersville dispatch reports a severe storm on the river last evening. Several skiffs carrying ten colored men capsized and five drowned.
