Major Shaw Life and Service in the Revolutionary War
He served as a lieutenant of artillery throughout the American Revolution with honor, praised by Washington and Knox. Letters from the period reveal a zealous patriot and intelligent soldier. In 1786 he became consul at Canton, having traded there the previous year. He died in 1794 while returning home after fulfilling duties in China.
