Treasury preps small notes to aid autumn crop payments
Washington reports Treasury officials plan to supply banks nationwide with small denomination notes for autumn crop needs. Secretary Foster and Treasurer Nebeker maintain the old system requiring a certificate of deposit arrival before transferring notes rather than telegraphic orders. The Express Company contract remains, delivering bills to Boston Chicago and beyond at a reduced rate, with serial-number tracking added to guard against theft.
