Treasury report on paid duties to protected articles
In Boston July 22, 1846 the Treasury notes a Senate resolution from June 29 directing the secretary of the treasury to report to the Senate the list of manufactured articles to which fifty four million dollars are annually paid by protecting duties and the amount paid on each article if known. The statement appears in the secretary’s report to Congress dated December 3 of the previous year.
