Neighbors Point to McMahon Girl in Tragedy

Death by own action not lightning in Boston office

Miss Alice Barrett of Waltham, bookkeeper at Codman & Codman, died Saturday from a bullet to the heart rather than a lightning strike. Police investigate whether suicide or possible murder amid a curious sequence of events, including a half holiday and a thunderclap at 3 07 PM near 40 Kilby Street.

Yacht Run Down by Steamer Off Snake Island

The steamer Winthrop struck the yacht Ermine amidships as it neared Snake Island channel yesterday. Captain Harry Dangle could not clear the yacht in time. the Ermine was cut down nearly to the water line. The Winthrop backed and ran aground, passengers moved forward to aid the vessel. The Ermine sustained damage but reached safety.
