The Boston Elevated system will end five cent fares next Thursday morning. From then on the fare for each ride on all lines will be seven cents. The decision was announced last night by the board of trustees. Continued on Page 2-Sixth Column.
Fuel Administrator James J. Storrow will meet with Mayor Alfred S. Hall and Revere city officials to review a recommendation on the White Way of Revere Beach. Action may affect amusement resorts nationwide as pleas keep lights glowing grow louder. Last night Nantasket and Revere beaches showed lightless streets while Boston and others appeared dark in winter hours. Lights will be enforced on Monday through Thursday in the region.
The White Star liner Justicia, ex Dutch Statendam, torpedoed and sunk with 400 crew landed. The vessel, 32,234 tons, was on voyage to an Irish port when attacked. Allied counter actions report advances and deep penetrations near Fere-en-Tardenois as troops close in on German positions.
Camp Devens reports the 76th Division has safely sailed overseas and a new 12th Division is organized at the cantonment. Major General Hodges and his staff are at the front, while troops training there are eager to sail. Details of embarkation and destinations were withheld from most personnel.
Allied forces press the Soissons Rheims Salient with German counterattacks failing to halt the advance. American and French troops push east toward the Soissons Chateau Thierry line and south along the Ourcq River, penetrating near Brecy about 1 1/4 miles from the drive’s start last Thursday.

Members of the Haverhill Shoe Manufacturers Association met to consider a proposal from the State Board of Conciliation and Arbitration to arbitrate the shoe workers strike. The secretary will report to Boston. Unions are willing to arbitrate if recognized, with demands of 10 to 30 percent pay increases.
Oswald Kunhardt once Boston consul-general and prominent member of the Tennis and Racquet Club was seized at Manchester-by-the-Sea under President Wilsons alien enemy order. He was taken to the federal building by local police and federal marshals and jailed in East Cambridge after questioning.
At the federal building last night rumors linked federal action to Hun submarine activity off the coast. Assistant Attorney Dewey refused to confirm or deny. Government officials view the arrest of the former diplomat in the Kaiser's service as highly important.
London report shows British and allied shipping losses for June at 275 629 gross tons due to enemy action and marine risk, the lowest monthly total since September 1916.
British losses reached 161,062 tons with allied and neutral losses at 114,567 tons. For the quarter ending June 380 total losses were 946,578 tons, the lowest since Q3 1916. Sailings remain high as steamships over 500 gross tons entering or clearing from UK ports total 7,430,386 tons.
