640 Head of Cattle Perish and Egypt Disaster Details

The Egyptian steamer burned after a fire started at 10 p.m. on the 17th, 1100 miles from Lands End. All 640 cattle perished or were driven to drown. The Manhattan rescued the crew, transferred them to the Gustav Oscar, and prepared provisions. Captain Sumner and several officers were injured.
