Washington reports a 36 hour forecast for New England and eastern New York with fair periods and continued high temperatures. By Wednesday afternoon expect local rains followed by cooler and variable winds.
Henry S Ives of New York surrendered in Judge Croder's court to answer an indictment for embezzlement from the Cincinnati Dayton and Hamilton Railway Company. George H Stayner, president of the road, also surrendered. They posted $10,000 bonds each with Albert Netter and George H Spear as bondsmen.
Republicans held a Tremont Temple meeting ratifying the Harri son and Morton nomination with speeches by Dr. Burden Congressman Lodge Tom Reed of Maine ex Governor Robinson and others. An overflow gathering occurred in the Meronnon. Page 1 includes city political action and local civic items.
Havernuvty July 24 Edward F. Kelly, tied to Hart's schemes, was arrested at his father’s house in Alnson New Hampshire by Lawrence City Marshal Vose. Kelly, an accomplice of Frank Hart who married Mrs. Austin of New Haven, allegedly obtained about $8000 from her before fleeing. Bail set at $3000.
New York report says Mrs Grace Ada de Almazro, who wed the son of a wealthy Cuban in Portland, Missouri in 1878, was granted an absolute divorce today with alimony set at 25 dollars weekly.
About 1000 Illinois residents called on General Harrison in Indianapolis. He delivered a speech and then shook hands with each visitor, greeting the large delegation in a ceremonial encounter.
The late Courtlandt Palmer’s body arrived in New York in a Vermont Central special. The funeral is set for Thursday with cremation planned at Fresh Pond. Colonel Robert Ingersoll to deliver the funeral oration.
Governor Ames, escorted by Mrs. Ames, traveled by special train from Providence at 1:50 PM to his country home in North Easton. Doctors initially doubted his ability to make the trip but noted he seemed cheerful and strong after dressing for the first time since illness. Dr. Knight said the governor handled the journey better than expected.
A list of vessels arriving at and sailing from ports including Boston Liverpool New York Philadelphia Havre Bremen and Plymouth. Notable entries include Milanese from London Samaria from Liverpool and Chateau Margeaux from Bordeaux with multiple origins and destinations.

Chamberlain and Webster defend the bill, while Parnellites demand definite charges and a fair hearing before a committee. The second reading passes without division. committee set for Monday.
The Czar and Czarina with Grand Dukes Vladimir Michael Nicholas and their wives boarded the German yacht Hohenzollern after meeting on Alexandra. Prince Henry greeted the party with bouquets and a luncheon followed on Hohenzollern before the Russians returned to Alexandra. Salutes from forts and fleets marked the moment as the Alexandr a remained alongside until Hohenzollern departed.
Berlin dispatch reports Prince Bismarck is indisposed and Dr Schweniiger has been summoned to Friedrichsruhe. The physician says the chancellor's illness is not of a serious nature and recovery is expected.
Dustin July 24 The eviction of tenants resumes on the Vandeleur estates in County Clare. Tenants block doors with beams and stones as police and soldiers protect bailiffs who batter with a ram. Wounds occur on both sides, many arrestees among male tenants and assisting neighbors. Compromise talks fail as threatened evictions loom.
Ottawa reports that Pitcher cannot be extradited for the offence charged bringing stolen money into Canada. Extradition applies only to murder arson piracy robbery or forgery. a fugitive is not surrendered unless the offence matches the surrender request. In Montreal the defense seeks discharge over omitted wording in the commitment and argument on the case is set for tomorrow. Pitcher is also said to have sworn a deposition charging Johnson with perjury.
Montreal report from July 24 describes Baltimore officers failing to arrive to file a charge against Benjamin Bergen. His counsel filed a habeas corpus plea for release, noting only a verbal charge. Bergen grieves imprisonment as his wife travels from Vermont, a letter with funds arriving for his lawyers, and a late telegram says officers cannot reach Montreal in time, risking his freedom at 8:60 tomorrow morning.
Newport July 24 Miss Sophia Clamenz a guest at Conanicut Park hotel sailed the cat boat Mayo Captain Reynolds when a squall capsized off Gould Island. The captain failed to free the cabin door as the vessel sank. Steamer Way Star failed to raise it. Clamenz a Swiss native had stayed at Newport Hospital recently and left money and plans to return home. Her body had not arrived by 1 am.
Attorney-General Taber files suit to dissolve the Troy and Boston railroad and appoint a receiver to wind up affairs. The complaint alleges the line has suspended business for at least a year and became insolvent after merging with Fitchburg by distributing assets to stockholders. Fitchburg named as defendant but not accused.
Four drowning victims from Brookfield were buried in Worcester on July 24. Mrs. C W Jones and Mrs Henry H Clark, both of Brookfield and Providence respectively, plus two Worcester youths Minnie Bullard and Arthur Wood were laid to rest after services at the First Universalist Church. The mournful procession, four hearses and floral tributes filled the church and streets as prayers and a sermon were delivered.
Fire at the five story block corner of Market and Court streets in Springfield gutted the building owned by F. B. Taylor and damaged tenants including C. E. Rice and the Schaeffer Oil Company. Fire began from oil barrel explosions in the cellar. total losses range from 25 000 to 30 000 with Taylor stock insured for 8000. Hong insurance details listed for several companies.
At 5 25 yesterday a fire alarm from Box 8 reported a blaze at 16 South Margin street in Jacob Lebins’s dwelling caused by a kerosene stove, $25 damage. A 7 23 alarm from Box 66 near Albany street bridge on the Boston and Albany line proved needless. A blaze in Hubbard and Blake’s tannery at 555 Main street Charlestown caused $40 damage. Box 453 sounded at 9 10 for a fire at 1187 Washington street in G F Brewer’s residence where curtains ignited from a gas jet, $60 damage. An alarm 452 at 9 30 yesterday morning reported a $10 fire at 288 Medford street Charlestown caused by children on matches.
Massachusetts Republicans staged a full crowd Tremont Temple meeting with Dr Burden and national figures like Lodge Reed and Perkins. Speeches attacked free trade and praised Benjamin Harrison, urging support for protectionist policy and warning against Democratic free trade plans.
Dr Burden speaks to ratify presidential ticket with a forecast of a 40,000 plurality for Harrison and Morton in Massachusetts.
