Woodland Wooing And Other New Books Review

A critical survey notes Eleanor Putnam's Woodland Wooing as a collection of village sketches with humor and charm, praising Sparhawk portraits and rural types while finding the book laborious and stagey. Louise Chandler Moulton’s Miss Eyre from Boston is praised for love centered stories, though some tales feel fated to sentiment. The piece also appraises shorter fiction volumes by Gibbon, Fenn, Macquoid and others, deeming most works uneven but noting notable exceptions and patriotic American pride.
