Wireless tests hear London signals over two thousand miles away
At St John’s Newfoundland on July 22 experts from Marconi Wireless Company announced yesterday they intercepted messages from the Chelmsford station near London more than 2000 miles distant. They identified Captain Round’s voice and several words but no connected sentence. They also reported faint signals from the steamer Victorian en route to Sydney and Montreal with Imperial Press Conference delegates. The Imperial steamer Emperor reported hearing signals from their station 1000 miles west of Bishop’s Rock. The Signal Hill station, where Marconi received the first trans Atlantic message twenty years ago, remains the site of the experiments.
