Conference Edits Tariff Rates on Hides Boots and Leather

The finance committee repeats that substituted rates are not increases as talks with Senate experts proceed. A settlement on hides may free them while boots and uppers drop to 15 percent and sole leather to 5 percent. A further cut to 10 percent for boots remains possible, but reopening the bill seems unlikely.

Victim and Suspect Named in Emerson House Trunk Case

The victim is Minas K. Momiian alias Paul Johnson, 24, Armenian, of 62 Church Street Lynn employed as a shoe vamper. The suspect is Vahan Nalbandian alias Vahan Darjian Frank Martin Frank Jones, 28, Armenian, residing in Room 43 Emerson House. He is described as five feet six inches, 145 pounds, very dark with yellow-tinged eyes, and hair thinning on top. The crime involved shooting the victim in the breast and placing the body in a locked trunk. The act reportedly occurred Sunday afternoon and was not found until the next morning. The victim hails from Bardzag, Turkey, with relatives in Jamaica Plain and Allston.
