Aldermen Delay Street Repairs and Track Veto Fight
The Board of Aldermen postponed action on a $249,000 street improvement loan and on the Mayor's veto of Union Freight Railroad track rights at the Northern avenue bridge. The session featured clashes over committee referrals, lobbying, and the Finance Commission's authority, with votes 7 to 6 to assign the track matter and to pass an $8,000 to $10,000 street bridge strengthening inquiry. An extra $5,000 bathhouse project was unanimously approved, while two Mayor vetoes on playgrounds were not sustained.
