Newp ort and Rocky Point excursion week draws crowds

Yesterday's Germania Band reunion with Worcester and Providence brass bands drew many excursionists to Rocky Point. About 15,000 visitors attended the Irish and Scotch festivals on July 5. The Continental Steam Boat Company runs the attractions, offering free privileges and a rebuilt coliseum theatre. Morning and afternoon concerts entertained guests, while Rhode Island clambakes and shore dinners kept crowds fed. Postmaster Key's Boston party, including senators, congressmen, and officials, stayed at the Newport hotel, as did several notable Bostonians. The Ocean House remains the social hub, with skating and nightly performances drawing crowds amid cooler seas and dreary hotel promenades.
