Bankers' Convention at Saratoga Calls for Resumption of Specie
The Bankers' Convention at Saratoga urged immediate resumption of coin payments and repeal of the war tax on banks. They called for issuing coupon bonds, abolition of the two cent stamp, and forming a permanent bankers' organization. A rival proposal suggested amending the 1875 act to gradual contraction of legal tender until 1885.
