Fire destroys Boston and Maine freight house on Causeway Street

Early Saturday fire razed the Boston and Maine freight house on Causeway Street. The 300 foot long wooden structure, about 12 years old, held freight including 87 bales of cotton goods owned by Salmon Fails Co and 42 bales of cotton belonging to Wm Gray. Loss likely $4000 to $5000, mostly insured in Springfield. Cause of fire suspected to be spontaneous combustion of cotton waste. The building was owned by George Lawton of this city and had just arrived from Lawrence.
