Gloucester fish market glut leaves fleet with excess catch

The Gloucester haddock market showed no demand at T wharf as the schooner Catharine and Ellen held 60 000 pounds of fresh fish overnight. Skipper Maurice Powers led the fleet with 70 000 pounds. Metamora set a hake record with 180 000 pounds, and total landings included 215 200 pounds haddock, 72 500 cod, 200 000 hake, 3 500 pollock and 38 700 halibut. Demand remained weak and several vessels sent hake and other fish to splitters in Gloucester.
