The commission holds no current necessity for unconditional certification or apportionment of appointments and recommends against renewing the rule.

A Boston express from New York collided with a gravel train near Hurd's elevator in BrRipGerort Connecticut. Two laborers died and six were injured while the engineer Ephraim Slayback of New Haven was arrested for manslaughter. Passengers remained unharmed.
The 11 oclock New York express arrived at Boston and Albany depot at 655 pm yesterday fifty five minutes late. Passengers and officials faced a calm scene as reports of an accident spread. The engineer was injured in the face and several gravel train workers were killed. The wreck occurred near Bridgeport just outside the station as the train slowed. The engine struck the gravel train causing two jolts that shook the carriages and delayed service by about an hour. Some witnesses blamed the engineer for ignoring a danger signal, with rumors of arrest.

The railroad commissioners set a July 30 hearing on the Boston & Maine branch around Lynn to Peabody. About forty Abraham Lincoln Post No 11,36, A R members and friends will depart Boston on the B & Albany train to San Francisco for the national G A R reunion escorted by the Ninth Regiment band.
The Rev. Charles H. A. Dall founder of American Unitarian missions in India died in Calcutta after a life of 31 years there. Born Baltimore 1815, Harvard 1836, he directed a 600 pupil school in Calcutta and missions in Madras and other places. He returned to aid wounded in Washington and North Carolina during the Civil War. His widow is Caroline Healy Dall. A May meeting praised his work and adopted a resolution of thanks and continued support for the India mission.
James F Gordon inventor and manufacturer of reapers and binders died at his Rochester New York residence yesterday aged 41. He left an estate valued at more than 100000 dollars.
