Washington dispatch reports Secretary Baker ruled that professional baseball players of draft age must work or face induction, with draft regulations possibly expanding to include actors and moving picture employees. The ruling clarifies that baseball talents may be pressed into civilian or military service as the war effort intensifies.
The Franco American push on the Aisne Marne front reports rapid gains with 17 000 Germans and 360 guns captured and reserves rushed to halt the drive. Despite stronger German resistance the allied advance has gained territory and prisoners, signaling a possible end to the German offensive as the effort continued.
