A collapse trapped fireman Arthur Potter of Ladder 1 as flames from Nelson Ferguson’s barn at 228 Fayette Street erupted. Five horses died. Potter suffered internal injuries and two broken ribs. he was placed on the hospital danger list as neighbors fled into the street after the fire broke out shortly before 1 o’clock sparked by a dog’s bark.
