An additional surgeon was called in as Roentgen rays are used. he is expected to remain indoors for a month. Painful yet cheerful, he may face four weeks of cancellations. A stream of dignitaries visited, with fifteen pages of names.
Madrid correspondent reports Sagasta favors France while the Duke of Río backs Germany as the trump card to end the war. Spain hopes to exploit Franco German rivalry to keep the Philippines and dodge a war indemnity.
Paris July 19 Emile Zola and M Perreux were sentenced to one year in prison and a 3000 franc fine for libel leveled by officers of the master hazy court martial. Zola has escaped to incerne Switzerland to dodge arrest.
