Forest fires burn across the region north of Spokane Washington including parts of Idaho and British Columbia. Millions of feet of timber have been destroyed. Smoke shrouds Rossland and northern towns while air grows heavy. Citizens migrate to Spokane seeking relief from the blaze.
Firefighters from Engine 4 responded to a Sunday morning blaze at the rear of Bulfinch Place Church near the block's corner. Chief Cheswell suspects an incendiary motive unlikely as barred gates blocked access. flames started in rubbish barrels under a vestry window, window burned away, loss pegged at twenty five dollars. The janitor reportedly disposed hot ashes in ash barrels atop paper and rubbish, suggesting accidental cause.
