Naval expedition burns bridge to cut rebel supply line
Despatches from Admiral Lee report the U S steamer Shamrock, July 13, sending Lieut Commander English with the Ceres and the White Head to Scuppernong River. They cooperated with 80 men under Lieut Col Clarke to burn a bridge at Columbia to block supplies for Ply mouth NC. The operation destroyed the bridge and disabled a large grist mill with no opposition.
