City Struck by Terrifying Thunder Storm and Lightning

A severe storm lashed the city with fierce lightning that stunned five and left several patients in hospitals, while a number of horses died and some victims remained unconscious late tonight. The blast affected many areas and caused widespread disruptions with hospitals busy and authorities promising relief.

Heat Wave Toll with Dozens Overcome in Boston

Results of yesterday's heat wave show many residents overcome or in serious condition at City Hospital and Emergency Hospital. Names include Thomas Minehan 42 Elizabeth Foley 72 and Alfred Rocliffe 30 among others from Roxbury South Boston and East Boston.

Death of Boston Firm Man French Found at Hotel

Frederick W. French, a partner in Howe & French dyestuffs and paints, was found dead in a Young's Hotel room. The Medical Examiner ruled natural death due to heart failure worsened by extreme heat. He lived at 200 Commonwealth avenue and recently stayed at the hotel during winter.

Third party ticket discussed by New York Democrats

In New York a gathering of golden Democrats and anti-imperialists formed to promote a third ticket for the presidency. The proposed platform denounces McKinley and Roosevelt, praises Bryan on imperialism, and calls for constitutional restoration, Cuban and Philippine independence, monetary and civil service reform, and abolition of special privileges. A meeting was authorized to invite supporters to Indianapolis on July 2 to advance the effort.

In New Jersey today an attachment was ordered on the pacer Robert J owned by Lewis G. Tewksbury of this city. The horse, in Westfield, was to be taken tomorrow after W Browning Johnson obtained the order.

Forecast for Thursday and Friday calls for Maine New Hampshire and Vermont generally fair with light to fresh northwesterly winds. Massachusetts Rhode Island and Connecticut expect showers Thursday then fair and not very warm Friday. Boston Suffers Heat Wave and Lightning Strikes

A record heat wave plus a violent storm wreaked havoc in Boston. Nellie Sheehan and Jennie White were struck by lightning in Brighton, while Joseph Bates and two dock workers were shocked or injured at the Cambridge end of Harvard Bridge and Elm docks. Four deaths and many prostrations marked twenty four hours as temperatures hit 97 at the weather bureau and night readings reached a new high since 1871. The forecast promised cooler weather the next day amid lingering humidity and sporadic thunder showers.
