German submarine Deutschland profits spark shipbuilding boom
Berlin July 17 via London. Commercial submarines could gain great weight in German American trade for the rest of the war. The Deutschland earned so much freight that its first voyage covered the costs, and further boats may be built swiftly. The builder is flooded with freight offers including 60,000 casks of beer. Banking papers are also desired freight though postal extensions are unlikely. The Reichsbank is to be used for such freight if feasible. Hair Care Ad Warns Against Soaps and Shampoos
An advertisement cautions that common soaps and prepared shampoos damage hair by drying the scalp and making hair brittle. It recommends using malsified coconut oil, a pure, greaseless cleanser, with one to two teaspoons to wash hair. The ad claims it creates rich lather, cleans dust and oil, and leaves hair soft, silky, and easy to manage. It notes coconut oil is inexpensive and widely available at pharmacies for the whole family.
