Special Despatch from Manchester New Hampshire July 17 reports large flags bearing Greeley and Brown names raised from Merchant's Exchange and Stearns's Hotel. A procession led by the Manchester Cornet Band marched through Elm Street with many spectators, band played the Star Spangled Banner, followed by fireworks. Republicans rally support for the Sage of Chappaqua with encouraging advisories from towns and the Central Committee. A grand ratification meeting is proposed in Manchester soon.

A waterspout on the Central City stage road four miles above Golden City washed out the road. A carriage carrying J. Vierden, his wife, her sister and a girl named Blood was struck. The sisters died in the flood and the body of Miss Vierden was found three miles downstream buried in sand and debris.

Colored delegate threatened after Greeley meeting riot in Raleigh
Samuel Gross, a colored attendee at the Greeley and Brown ratification meeting, was mobbed by colored men and severely beaten then vanished after leaving the police station. Simon Craven, also a colored marshal and Cincinnati Convention delegate, was assaulted at home with death threats amid accusations of being a Greeleyite.
