The Sixth Maine Regiment En route To Washington
The Sixth Regiment of Maine Volunteers led by Col. Knowles left Portland yesterday morning and passed through Boston on the way to the seat of war. They received pay and bounty Tuesday afternoon, and Gov. Washburn witnessed the dress parade before addressing the troops. A large crowd greeted them at the depot as they marched to the Common for refreshments, then onto Old Colony Depot for departure to Washington.
