A troop train bound for Camp Devens crashes into a picnic party at a blind grade crossing near Unity Maine. A mother shielded her baby as three women died instantly and two men and a boy were fatally hurt. Two others survived with injuries.
Four children Leander Joyce 4 Leola Joyce 6 Bernice Joyce 10 and Lena Joyce 13 all members of a Plymouth family drowned in Baker's River while an older sister and brother attempted rescue. An adult rescuer, unable to swim, nearly perished and a fifth child was saved by a pul motor.
W. J. Quinlan of Boston declared the new individual public course golf champion of New England. Archers beat golfers one up in a freak two ball two arrow match at Paterson New Jersey. Rangier wins Grand Prix for passenger autos at Strasburg. Full sports on pages 7 8 and 9.

Malcolm W. McFarland, just stepping from his home at 135 New Boston Road, Fall River, was met by a Post representative delivering his Ford touring car prize after his win in the newspaper's Ford-a-Day contest.
A fire in the Chelsea Elks building started in a lavatory and spread to a dressing room. The losses include $2000 to the structure, $1000 for furnishings, $1900 to tobacco shop owner William Rodman, and $1000 to basement bowling alleys. Building owned by Ruben Bloomfield.

Davis flies with a pilot acquaintance in a flying boat from New York at 6 am, reaches Bass River on Cape Cod in three hours, then Boston in about 90 minutes, and visits Francis Bigelow in Cambridge.
Two teen inmates of a Manhattan home for wayward girls were taken to Bellevue Hospital after swallowing large amounts of a disinfectant fluid used to clean their rooms. Stella Miller 17 of Pittsburg and Anna Kronak 18 of New York stated they preferred death to continued incarceration.
