After two days of suspended negotiations with threats of strike from one side and preparations from the other, representatives of the conductors and trainmen will meet General Manager Myers of the Pennsylvania railroad Monday at 11 o'clock in Philadelphia.
President W G Lee of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen reports a private citizen delivered a message suggesting a misunderstanding could be cleared by another conference. V Ps Myers schedules a Monday meeting after Sheppard and Sines arrive from Pittsburgh with news that western conditions offered by the company match the unions’ aims. Meanwhile preparations for a possible strike intensify with trains fitted as quarters for recruits and police forces expanding from 1000 to as many as 5000 along the Pittsburgh line.
Baltimore reports men are being recruited at two hotels on behalf of the Pennsylvania railroad. Applicants are told they will serve on the detective force and be assigned to the northern central railway. About 125 to 150 have reportedly been engaged. Some may be trained as trainmen or conductors if a strike occurs. this could not be verified.
Pittsburg police chief orders all detectives to report at 8 am tomorrow. Officials aim to have the force ready for action if strike trouble develops.
W O Elwell of Somerville filed for a writ of habeas corpus to gain possession of his 12 year old son Arthur Blackinton Elwell. He alleges the mother Mary Elwell is alienating affections, keeping the boy at Rowley with her parents Oliver and Sarah Blackinton, while courting Mr. Boynton. He cites repeated visits to Boynton's home and urges harmful influence on the child. The mother denies wrongdoing and says she left the husband over his habits, noting she went to Boynton's house only after being forced from her home.
The Rindge Triangulars beat Crescent A. C. of Dorchester 8 to 1 in six innings at Savin Hill playground yesterday. Rain halted the game after the sixth.
Edward H. Munch of Boston proprietor of the Royal Dairy Lunch, 12 Hanover Street, was killed instantly when his car overturned after hitting trolley tracks on a State road near Namonet Heights during a rapid spin to Wareham. Four other occupants escaped with injuries. Munch, 40, had bought the car two weeks earlier and planned a several day trip.
Edward H. Munch, 40, of Boston, a restaurant proprietor, was pinned under a machine and died shortly after. Mrs. C. E. Welden of Mano Met Heights Wareham sustained body bruises. Mr. C. E. Welden of Mano Met Heights Wareham cut on the head. Miss Helen Brown of Boston suffered back injuries. A man, unnamed, had back injuries.
Hartwell of Arlington to be removed to the house of H W Munch brother in law at 22 Lincoln Street Arlington. After treatment the injured party members were taken to Welden's home and reported late tonight that all were doing well. Munch long resided in Boston area and his brothers Fred C Hull Henry W Arlington and Charles Boston run lunch rooms. one sister survives. Munch belonged to Massachusetts Lodge A F and A M Winthrop and Hull yacht clubs and other organizations.
James H. Vahey stated he will not withdraw from the Democratic gubernatorial contest in Massachusetts. He accuses Republican politicians of provoking a bitter factional quarrel between Congressmen Foss and himself among Democratic and independent voters statewide.
Vahey asserts warm friendship with Congressman Foss and says he has no decision to run. He vows to act for the people and conscience if delibrations lead him to change course, seeking the victory of the Democratic principles this fall and urging party leaders to use sound judgment. He blames Republican efforts to stir discord to thwart Democratic and Independent voters.
Engineers predict the Cambridge subway will finish ahead of schedule and turn over the bore to the Elevated by next April, marking a full year of savings in construction time.
A relief committee in Boston issued a city wide appeal to rally aid for New Brunswick fire victims. After meeting in the Mayor's office, they noted $5000 had already been sent and issued a broader call for continued generosity to sustain relief efforts.
The relief committee will reconvene Monday to launch a systematic donation campaign. An appeal to Boston and Massachusetts residents describes Campbellton N B as destroyed by fire leaving five thousand people without food clothing or shelter.

Morgan M. Pattison of Yale 1911 and Mildred M. Eaton of New Haven eloped first June 16 in East Haven with Senator Dwight Tuttle as justice of the peace. They feared a slip over a false age but then wed again two days later at New Haven City Hall with Rev. Dr. Leete officiating. Pattison hails from Superior Wisconsin.
Percy Williams, 35, of 72 O Street South Boston, a long time shipper for Carter Rice and Co, 246 Devonshire Street, was instantly killed in an elevator accident at the firm yesterday morning. No witnesses survived to explain the mishap. his body was found at the bottom of the elevator well. He had worked for the company for 15 years in the basement shipping room.
Boston led by solid wins in intercity events as Chicago, New York and Philadelphia posted varied results. National league tallies include Pittsburg over New York and St Louis edging Brooklyn, with final scores reflecting a busy sporting slate.
In Winfield Kansas Speaker Joseph G Cannon collapsed on the Chautauqua platform after about an hour and three quarters of speaking in intense heat. Prompt aid restored him but he could not continue. He was taken to J T Raffertys home and later insisted on continuing his campaign, planning five speeches over the next two days despite exhaustion and a hot day with a temperature around 102 degrees. He left for Arkansas City with Congressman Campbell.
Patrick J. Sullivan a patrolman of Jamaica Plain suffered a severe shoulder injury when a runaway horse and open buggy dashed down Centre street near German yesterday. Sullivan jumped to control the horse and fell losing his grip. the horse was later stopped. He lives at 15 Alrick street West Roxbury and was taken home for medical care.
Newtonville report states 3 year old Arlene McGurty daughter of Mr Mrs James H McGurty 649 Washington Newtonville was accidentally shot in the left eye by 15 year old Arthur Boyd at 7 Crafts street. Late tonight the child was reported likely to die.
A boy playing with a girl on Louis H. Maseil's porch found a rifle and allegedly pointed it at the child. She fell unconscious with a bullet wound near her left eye, later paralyzed on the left side. The boy denied firing but police suspect otherwise and took no arrest.
In Havana on July 16 Joaquim Gomez, cousin of President Gomez, was shot and killed by Martinez Moles, Mayor of Sancti Spiritus. Moles says he fired in self defense.
