Greenwich Conn July 16 One woman was killed and nearly a dozen hurt when the White Mountain express left rails crossing a bridge. The wreck left five passenger coaches in a ditch and occurred at 9 20 this morning as the train traveled 50 miles per hour.
The deadliest moment of the wreck was the death of Miss Margaret Armstrong of Wayne Pennsylvania who sat with her mother in a Pullman coach when the train derailed.
Joseph Campenello aged 26 of 15 South Margin Street North End leapt into Boston harbor from the ferry Hugh O Brien around six last evening in search of a five dollar bill. He was rescued with difficulty by the engineer of a passing tugboat.
Mayor McClellan's message to Chicago Mayor Busse arrived in Auburn at 11 01 tonight via Syracuse YMCA runners. The relay started when Mayor Koenig handed the silver tube to John Turner who passed it to the first of 17 runners toward Cayuga Lake nine miles away.
Campenello on the East Boston side dropped a five dollar bill from his pocket while boarding the ferry. A gust carried the money overboard and Joe, unable to swim, dived after it. The boat stopped after the emergency bell rang and a tug rescued Campenello as he sank for a second time.
Two masked professionals raided the Castle Cafe at 387 Tremont Street through a skylight early today. One suspect named William Maxwell, 22, of New York, was captured after a gunbattle. accomplice escaped, police aided by James Mahoney who alerted Station 4.
Mrs Beatrice Sughrue 26 swallowed sulpho napthol at 14 Mills Street yesterday with her three children present. Neighbors called an ambulance and she was hospitalized in critical condition, later improving and nearing recovery. Her motive remains unknown and she offered no explanation.
On the lakeshore a tube was slid into a pouch on 17 year old Frank Parker who dived 30 feet and swam toward the middle of the lake. Arthur Adams waited in a boat as Parker and Adams covered the mile in a little over half an hour using four search lights from Bridgeport to guide them. Transfer occurred at midnight with Frank C Rich of New York in a supporting boat. A relay of fifty boys carried the message from Auburn to Geneva a distance of 36 miles.
Utica relay team received the message from Johnstown runners at Little Falls twenty two miles away at 11:05 this morning. They carried it into Utica over two hours ahead of schedule with Mayor Wheeler presenting the message since Congressman Sherman attended an important meeting and left five minutes before the runner arrived.
Utica messenger arrives in Rome at 3 30 pm three and a half hours before the schedule. Mayor Kessinger hands the baton to John Hook who runs the first leg. Rome’s 56 runners will relay the message to Syracuse.
Syracuse reports the Rome Y M C A boys in a relay race arriving at 8 15 in Syracuse with the silver tube passed to local runners bound for Aubur. The team is four hours and a fraction ahead of schedule.
Charles Rob inson of Syracuse arrived in Auburn at 11 o clock with a message. Mayor Koenig handed it to John Turner who started immediately. The message reached 5 hours 10 minutes before schedule as John Becevva, carrying it over Camillus Hill, vanished from sight. Automobiles tooted and bells rang as the message arrived.
