Deeds of Heroism on Stricken Battleship Georgia

Six men burned to death and 15 injured when 104 pounds of smokeless powder ignited in the Georgia during target practice in Barnstable Bay. Midshipman Lucien Frank Kimball survived with minor burns after courageously aiding others. Chief Yeoman Orly Tagland sacrificed his life saving Lieutenant Caspar Goodrich. Goodrich died later. One unnamed sailor closed the magazine hatch to save the ship. Captain Henry McCrea and Rear Admiral Thomas coordinated rapid medical response from the Virginia and Chelsea Hospital.

Lifeguard Henry Higgins Rescues Two Drowning Teens

Henry A. Higgins, life guard at Dewey Beach Charlestown, rescued Almis Dionne 17 of 36 Belmont street and Mary Flavin 19 of 2 Mystic place after a water-landing incident. Dionne jumped from a raft and sank, Flavin followed to help but struggled. Higgins brought both to shore and Dionne was treated by Dr. John F. O'Brien. both expected to recover in a few days.

Saw Her Boy in Flames in Everett

July 15 Everett. Four year old Gordon Porter son of Arthur J Porter 22 Wynde street was seriously burned on legs and arms when paper he lit in the street caught fire. His mother Mrs Porter smothered the flames with a rug saving him. Doctor reports he will recover.

Rev Samuel Bush Arrested in Cambridge Attack Case

The Rev Samuel Bush colored is under arrest in Cambridge charged with an assault on Antoinette Herndon colored a 15 year old girl. Police Sergeant Brennan and Patrolman Robertson arrested him on a Cambridge District Court warrant late last night. He is pastor of St Stephens Church near Main and Portland streets and has resided at 2 Harrison street. The girl lives at 20 Harrison street. He remained in custody past midnight and bail had not been set.

Last of Admiral Goodrichs Three Sons Dies in Service

Rear Admiral Casper S Goodrich reached Chelsea Naval Hospital at midnight after his son Lieutenant Casper Goodrich died. The Goodrich family, including Mrs Goodrich and two daughters, mourn a trio of sons lost in service with the elder father overwhelmed by grief. The three sons died in the line of duty, one at San Juan Hill, another in the regular army, and the third in naval service.
